The WSC 98/99 boy’s U13 Navy traveled up to Charleston, SC this past weekend to participate in the 2011 Charleston Men’s Soccer Shootout. The boy’s faced two of South Carolina’s top teams to advance out of their group where they squared off against Group A winner, Discoveries Soccer Club (SC) in Sunday’s semifinals match. The boy’s fought hard and came out on top 2-0 to setup a finals rematch with South Carolina’s #2 ranked team, SCU/MP 98 Elite, who they tied earlier that weekend in group play, 1-1.
The final between these two teams couldn’t have been scripted any better. With 10 minutes into the match, SCU/MP went up 1-0 when SCU/MPs striker ran onto a well driven pass over the WSC backline. Our WSC boy’s recovered in the 2nd half, when Noah found his footing in the box to place one past the SCU/MP keeper to tie it up in regulation play, sending the game into double overtime. With the game still knotted up at 1-1 with 15 seconds remaining, “Marky Mark” beat two SCU/MP players down the right flank to send a ball 23yds in over the keepers head and into the back of the goal with no time remaining. It was a memorable world class thriller!
