WESTSIDE SOCCER CLUB
U5 & U6 RULES
Focus: The purpose at the U5 and U6 level is to offer a “pressure free” introduction to soccer for young players and parents. The focus at this level is to provide a positive soccer experience, to allow players to discover the game for themselves and to create a fun atmosphere.
Laws of Game:
Number of Players - Maximum of 4 players on the field at one time.
Ball size- Size 3
Equipment- All players must wear shin guards under their soccer socks. Uniform is provided. Cleats are recommended at this age, but not mandatory.
Monitors- No referees at this age group, instead the coaches will serve as monitors. The monitors are allowed on the field, but should avoid being in front of the net and stay out of play. The monitors will take turns between taking time and monitoring play. The monitor’s primary responsibility is putting the ball in play when it goes out of bounds. The monitor should let play go with minimum interruptions. Keep the game moving, fun and safe. Lots of “do-overs” should be a regular occurrence.
Duration of Game- The match is divided into four equal, ten minute quarters. A two minute break between quarters one and two and another two minute break between quarters three and four. There shall be a five minute half time break.
Start and Restart of Play- The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward. The kicker cannot touch the ball a second time until it has been touched by another player. The opposing team at a kick off should remain at least 5 yards back from the ball.
