Lots of "do-overs" should be a regular occurrence.

General Notes and Guidelines:

Remember,

they’re 3 & 4 year olds and rules are more for us Older Folks. Please allow the game to flow as much as possible without interruption. A reminder that soccer is a game to play with your feet, and keep on playing! And remember, if you’re having fun, they will be too!

Session Format

Here’s a couple of example of games to play during your activity times (20 – 25 minutes):

: The flow of the session hour should be 20-25 minutes of activity session, 5 minute break between the activity session and the short-sided game to get ready. The games will be two halves of 10 minutes each and a 5 minute half time break.

What Time Is It Mr. Wolf?

– Have the players start on one of the lines with a ball. Mr. Wolf (that’s you) calls out one of the players name. The player is told to ask, "What time is it Mr. Wolf?" and Mr. Wolf calls out a time "It’s 5 O’Clock". Then the players push their ball 5 times with their foot. This continues through several players until Mr. Wolf says, "It’s lunch time (or breakfast, dinner, or snack time)". At that time, the players return to the original line as fast as they can so Mr. Wolf doesn’t steal their ball (at this age, he never does J). Continue playing several rounds – this is also a good way of learning your players names.

Polar Bear & the Penguins

– set up 4 cones as an iceberg (about 5’ by 5’). The players are penguins & start out on the iceberg. The Polar Bear (again it’s you) is in the water & pretends to be asleep. While the Polar Bear is asleep, the penguins take their balls out in the water and go for a swim. Tell them to push their balls around in the water & go for a good long swim. When the Polar Bear wakes up, the penguins have to hurry back to the iceberg for safety.

Snacks

… Don’t forget to have one of your parents bring a snack for halftime (usually a little bit of fruit – apple slices, grapes, etc) and an after game snack (low sugar juice or water, cookies, etc). Have your Team Manager set up a schedule for the parents to provide the snacks each week. Have a great time!
